Dark Inventions is a contemporary music group based in the North of England. Formed in 2012 by Christopher Leedham and Martin Scheuregger, the group commissions, performs and records works by composers from across the UK. Projects have included: a theatrical production of Pierrot Lunaire in a new English translation; appearances at the Edinburgh Fringe performing two new works from Scottish composer Neil Thomas Smith; and a tour of the North of England featuring a specially-commissioned work from Philip Cashian.
In their first recording Hinterland three ensemble works are interspersed with four freshly-minted folk song arrangements, sung by Stef. Their second album (released Spring 2015) will feature new works by emerging British composers, as the group works in collaboration with University of York Music Press on a mentoring and publishing scheme. The group have appeared at venues and festivals including: Capstone Theatre (Liverpool); Coastival (Scarborough); Engine House (Manchester); Lit & Phil (Newcastle); York Spring Festival; and have featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune.
